The National Library of Israel

Wayfinding system for The National Library of Israel, Jerusalem

Established in Jerusalem in 1892, the National Library of Israel moved into its extraordinary new home in 2023. Designed by the renowned Swiss architectural firm, Herzog & de Meuron, it is already a landmark between two of the city’s most prominent institutions, the Israel Museum and the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament).
The Library is primarily dedicated to “collecting and preserving the cultural treasures of Israel and the Jewish People,” though it sometimes reaches beyond that goal as well.
The signage system for the project was carefully conceived and executed by Kasher Design so as to integrate it into the architecture, rather than merely adhere to it. The graphic system itself was based on the classic Hadassah typeface, and appears in three languages: Hebrew, Arabic and English.
