The building in which the Haifa University Central Library is situated is an iconic building designed in the 1960s by the Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer. In 2010, the university commissioned architect Asaf Lerman to redesign the space.
The signage system created for the library was simple-looking and essentially modern, in keeping with the contemporary language of the architecture. Color was used carefully when needed, using a color-coded system.
